Tamilnadu Muslim Cultural Association (TMCA) arranges a high priority meeting with all Presidents and Executives of their respective Jamaths in Kuwait, which will be held on 14.11.2008, 5:00 P.M at Kuwait Teachers Society, Dasma.

TMCA stepping forward to expand its dedicated services and trying to reach entire avails to every fellow tamil muslims. Therefore, the Association attempting to unify all Tamilnadu State Jamaths in Kuwait and storing the respective data of each area presidents/executives including the addresses in order to render and execute the instant services in case of any emergency situations and mishaps happening to our fellow tamil muslims by contacting the corresponding area presidents to inform their relatives and friends immediately.

TMCA arranges the Eid Get-together for the (Tamilnadu) Islamic community in Kuwait. The Eid Get-together will be held on next day of Eid at Rumaithia Garden from 9:00 A.M till 4:00 P.M.
The TMCA Coordination council members have decided in their meeting to organize the Eid Get-together (Eid Melan) to give an opportunity to meet and greet our known and unknown Islamic brothers, friends and families to have a mutual interaction also entertain with more fun games for enjoyments of the participates and Islamic intellectual issues (Quiz Program) to make Islamic awareness. The special games will be conducted for children, men and women separately.

TMCA UMRA PROGRAMME 2008
(A Unique Journey in the Path of Almighty Allah)

By the Grace of Allah the Almighty, Tamilnadu Muslim Cultural Association (TMCA) arranged a special Umra trip on 9th July 2008 for 10 days to Holy shrines of Mecca and Medina with a special fare. A well organized three caravans formed by TMCA, Around 160 pilgrims had participated in this year. The members, non-members, Children and families are traveled with high Religious spirit and more interest.

A grand send off ceremony was held on 9th July 2008 at 6:15 P.M. TMCA members, well-wishers and many prominent personalities adorned this grand ceremony. The function presided by Almas Musthafa (President-TMCA) the Holy Quran recited by Master Muzammil Habeeb. The welcome address delivered by Moulavi Meerasha Fazil Baqavi (Secretary - TMCA Religious wing) the Umra pilgrimage address delivered by Moulavi Nasar Rabbani B.A., (Proprietor – Al Ameen Umra Service and TMCA Advisory Committee Member) and special addresses delivered by R. Mohamed Farook (Ex. President – TMCA, Member – Custodian Committee) a Special illustrated Umra Souvenir released by Br. Abdullah A. Mohsin Al-Mutairi (Ministry of Labour Affairs). Umbrella presented by Moulavi Nasar Sadik Rabbani B.A. and received by Br. Ameer Basha Jainulabdeen. A special ID accreditation issued by Br. Tajudeen M.A., (Advisor – TMCA and Life Member) and received by Br. Almas Musthafa (President- TMCA). The function concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Br. M.I. Sowkath Ali (Vice- President, TMCA). a large number of people have participated from various places and association members.

By the abundance grace of Allah the Almighty, Tamilnadu Muslim Cultural Association (TMCA) is arranging a 10 days Special Umra trip Insha Allah on 9th July 2008, 6:00 p.m at Mirqab (behind - old police station) for the Tamil Islamic inhabitants of Kuwait. Following an official announcement of TMCA – UMRA PROGRAM 2008, many applications have been received by TMCA administration from the Tamil Muslims (families and bachelors), TMCA limited to ply 3 buses for 160 pilgrims to render a quality services. The office bearers and other members have taken more efforts for all success of this great service.

Al Yasara food Co. , is providing Water, Juices, Laban, milk and caps for all pilgrims. Al-Ameen Umra service and TMCA jointly contributing Umbrellas to each pilgrim, In addition, many well wishers and TMCA members have contributing many gifts and edible items. Almas restaurant arranging a Dinner for every pilgrims on 9th July 2008.

Mr. Jamal Satti, Manager - IPC will commence this pilgrimage (Umra 2008) at 6:30 P.M and Mr. Abdulla Abdul Mohsin Mutairi, Ministry of Labour Affairs will release special accreditation cards for all pilgrims.

TMCA – Religious wing will release a Special illustrated and explanation Magazine for UMRA.

Many prominent scholars, TMCA members and well-wishers will participate in this wonderful send-off ceremony for Umra pilgrims (bon-voyage with a goodwill expression).

A Special Seminar for Umrah Pilgrims was held on Friday, 27th June 2008 in Masjid Nabhan (IIC- Tamil Sermon Masjid) Opp- McDonald's in Darwajah Area, Kuwait. Program Started at 4 P.M with Qirath by Hafiz Shahul Hameed. the program presided by Br. Almas Musthafa (President- TMCA), Br. N.A.M. Abdul Aleem (General Secretary - TMCA) delivered the welcome address. The program compiled by Br. M. Muneer Ahmed (Dy. Secretary General - TMCA).

The Lectures delivered by Prof.Moulavi. Abdul Salam Dawoodi, Moulavi Meerasha Fazil Baqavi (Religious Secretaries - TMCA) and Moulavi Assheikh Munas Nalimi ( President - IIC) delivered a Special address. Moulavi F. Sheik Dawood Siraji gave a brief lecture about the repentance and meditation of Allah the Almighty. Br. N.A.M. Abdul Aleem reported activities of Umra Program and he cited that 160 pilgrims will travel in 3 buses. the program concluded with the vote of thanks by Br. M.I. Showkath Ali (Vice President - TMCA).

KUWAIT CITY, March 17: The Kuwaiti cabinet resigned on Monday alleging that the opposition-dominated Parliament refused to cooperate, in the latest political crisis to hit the country. The move raised the prospects of a new dissolution of Parliament and early elections, amid rising sectarian tensions and non-stop confrontations between MPs and the government. His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, a nephew of HH the Amir, handed the letter of resignation to HH the Deputy Amir and Crown Prince, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, as the Amir is out of the country. During the weekly cabinet meeting, First Deputy Premier and Defence Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Sabah earlier tendered the resignation of cabinet ministers en masse to the prime minister, citing non-cooperation from MPs.

“It is regrettable that we have been confronted with obstructive positions and practices” from MPs, the defence minister said in the letter, which was made public. Sheikh Jaber added that MPs “have refused to respond positively to the extended hand of government and its appeals for a constructive cooperation. “Our political scene has lately witnessed events that undermine our national unity, in addition to confrontations, crises and violations of parliamentary norms,” he said in a clear reference to sectarian tensions. Kuwait has been experiencing sectarian tensions after activists from the Shiite minority held a rally last month to mourn former Lebanese Hezbollah commander Imad Moughniyah, killed in a car bombing in Damascus. On the economic front, Parliament was due to vote Tuesday on a law to increase salaries for Kuwaiti citizens by an extra KD 50 ($188) a month despite strong opposition by the government.

The government last month already raised the salaries of citizens by KD 120 ($450), but that increase was seen as inadequate by a majority of MPs. Under the Kuwaiti Constitution, the Amir can either accept the cabinet’s resignation and ask the current premier or a new one to form a government, or dissolve Parliament and call for early elections. Parliament was last dissolved in May 2006 following a standoff with the government, leading to early elections in June in which women took part for the first time. “I believe that Parliament is going to be dissolved soon and early elections will be held. But this will not resolve Kuwait’s ongoing crises,” political analyst Ayed al-Manna told AFP.

He said such crises would continue as long as the Kuwaiti political system was not fundamentally reformed.“The solution to our crisis is through allowing the establishment of political parties so the government can enjoy the support of a majority in Parliament,” Manna added.Political parties are banned in Kuwait, although the government allows political groupings, considered as de facto parties, to operate.The Amir had faced calls to sack the government, appoint a new premier and hold early parliamentary polls.Leading liberal MP Ahmad Al-Mulaifi last week said the government should go and called for changes within the ruling Al-Sabah family. He said the premier had failed to carry out reforms and resolve the nation’s crisis.Sheikh Nasser was appointed premier for the first time two years ago.Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Faisal Al-Hajji quoted excerpts of the letter as follows; “It was a great honor for us to be entrusted by His Highness the Amir to the ministerial posts in order to serve our dear homeland.“However, we faced regrettable obstacles notably the tense relationship between the legislative and executive authorities, the deviation of the concept of parliamentary representation, the infringement on the national unity and the violation of guidelines outlined by the constitution and the internal statutes of the National Assembly.“The MPs rebuffed the government call for cooperation and achievement of the aspirations of the citizens and tended to practices that could undermine our national unity and security.“Some MPs tended to transgress the constitutional rules and parliamentary norms with a view to escalate the tension with the government and meddle in the affairs of ministers,” according to the letter of resignation.“Such practices widened the gap between the government and the Parliament and shrank the chances of positive cooperation between the two authorities.“The government is no longer able to discharge its duties and responsibilities and push forward the desired development, thus fuelling the feelings of frustration and resentment among the citizens.“For the above reasons, and in the light of the general atmosphere in the region that necessitate effective cooperation manipulation of all potentials, my colleagues and I deemed it necessary to tender our resignation to your highness.“We expect your highness to take as usual the wise decision to serve the higher national interests of the nation,” Al-Hajji added citing the letter.Meanwhile, the Cabinet’s resignation on Monday created a multitude of reactions among the MPs with some saying the decision came at the right time while others predicted it will lead to the dissolution of the Parliament.MP Dr Waleed Al-Tabtabaei said the resignation was “unexpected considering the Parliament has shown its willingness to cooperate with the Cabinet. There were several attempts to dissolve the National Assembly but MPs have shown tolerance and coordination, which eased the tension in the country. The Cabinet’s decision clearly manifests the worsening relations between the two authorities.” Al-Tabtabaei added approval of the resignation signals the beginning of moves to dissolve the Parliament.Meanwhile, MP Mohamed Al-Saqer blamed some MPs for spearheading actions to aggravate the tension, which resulted in the Cabinet’s resignation. Al-Saqer said the resignation was unexpected but previous incidents, particularly heated talks on the removal of diwaniyas built on state properties, had somehow given the public an inkling that the resignation is inevitable. Also, he has not discounted the possibility that this decision will lead to the dissolution of the Parliament. Indicating the Cabinet’s resignation is ‘good news’, MP Ali Al-Deqbasi pointed out “Kuwait is in dire need of a strong and impartial Cabinet.” He hoped the new Cabinet will protect public welfare and comply with the constitution. He also asserted that cooperation between the two authorities is an essential requirement and a constitutional duty. Al-Deqbasi confirmed there is a high probability that the five constituencies electoral system will be implemented in the next parliamentary elections.MP Ahmed Baqer agreed with his colleagues, saying, “the Cabinet made a right decision as per the law and constitution.” He said the Cabinet has failed to win the support of the majority at the Parliament from the beginning due to its inability to efficiently execute its programs. “Various issues turned out to be sources of conflict. Lack of cooperation between the two authorities as well as the worsening conditions of the state have made it essential for the Cabinet to resign,” he opined.Blaming both the Cabinet and Parliament for the escalation of tension in the country, Dr Ali Al-Omair said the Cabinet resigned in the nick of time. This decision, he added, will prevent an imminent political crisis and give the new government a chance to carry out the instructions of HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. On the possible dissolution of the Parliament, Al-Omair said this will give Kuwaitis an opportunity to wisely choose their representatives.Meanwhile, Convener of the Independent Islamic Bloc MP Jaber Al-Muhailbi stressed the Cabinet should explain its decision. He said the bloc has expressed satisfaction over the resignation of the Cabinet which, he believes, is weak and incompetent. He has also refuted the Cabinet’s allegation that the Parliament is uncooperative. Criticizing the government for its inability to address various issues, such as the KD 50 additional increment and organization of diwaniyas, MP Mizel Al-Nimran said the Parliament has always been supportive of the Cabinet. “The Parliament has given in to the demands of the Cabinet several times in the past, such as the postponement or cancellation of some proposals, especially the no-confidence vote for Minister of Education and Higher Education Nouriya Al-Subaih,” he argued.

“We have expected the Cabinet’s resignation since its formation due the absence of effective planning, no sense of responsibility and strained relations with the Parliament,” says MP Jamal Al-Omar adding there are numerous indicators of the Cabinet’s failures and inability to address the issues.

Islamic Independent Bloc members MPs Abdullah Akash and Saad Al-Shurai commended the Cabinet for its resignation. Both MPs also accused the Cabinet of obstructing the development process in the country. Since the Cabinet is weak, Al-Shurai said its resignation is the only acceptable decision, especially after walking out of the National Assembly session hall during the voting on the proposed KD 50 additional increment for Kuwaiti employees.

MP Dr Daifallah Buramiya, however, believes the Cabinet announced its resignation later than expected. Describing the Cabinet as ‘incompetent, a failure and paralyzed’, he said the executive authority has failed to address many pressing issues, such as the condolence meeting for slain Hezbollah commander Imad Moughniyah and the KD 50 increment. MP Mussein Mezyed stressed the Cabinet’s resignation is a way to escape from any confrontation due to its inability to handle several pending issues, particularly those concerning public welfare. “The resignation came at a time when the Parliament is preparing for a crucial session,” Mezyed pointed out. Asserting the Cabinet is like a ‘social’ disease, MP Mohammed Al-Mutair urged the Cabinet members to stand firm in their decision to improve the worsening condition of the country.

KUWAIT CITY, March 3: The Ministry of Interior introduced two new services — a voice information service and an online fine payment service — Sunday. In the voice information system, citizens and residents can get information about violations, personal sponsorship, status of passports, driving license, gun license, car registration, residency status and travel ban by dialing 888988. However, to inquire about travel bans, one has to contact the Information Systems General Department to obtain a password for the voice service. The aim is to reduce pressure on internal departments and reduce crowds as citizens and residents can call the service and inquire about any transaction before approaching a particular department.

The second service simplifies the process of collecting traffic violations fines. Beginning March 2, 2008, citizens and residents can log on to the ministry’s website http://www.moi.gov.kw/portal/venglish/ and pay traffic violation fines except for some limited violations that cannot be paid online. Only 19 violations from the 297 stipulated by the Traffic Law and its executive byelaws cannot be paid on the Internet. Violators who fall under these categories will have to refer to the Traffic Violations Investigation Department at the Traffic General Department.

However, for all other violations, citizens and residents can pay fines on the websites regardless of the governorate where the violation took place.The Ministry urged citizens and residents to provide feedback on the two services in order to improve the services and prevent any negative aspect, states a press release issued by the Ministry of Inteiror.

Ramsey Clark: “The U.S. war of aggression [in Iraq] was a supreme international crime, a supreme crime against humanity.”

Ramsey Clark, the former United States Attorney General, is a controversial figure. He played an important role in the history of the American Civil Rights movement, is affiliated with “VoteToImpeach”, an organisation advocating the impeachment of President George W Bush, and joined in 2004, a panel of lawyers which volunteered to defend Saddam Hussein in his trial before the Iraqi Special Tribunal. Excerpts from an interview during Mr. Clark’s recent visit to Kolkata:

If one were to argue that the much-bandied phrase in today’s political discourse “the international community” is little more than a euphemism for the United States furthering its interests in the new global order, how would you respond?

think that if those who work towards greater globalisation and domination want the world psychologically to think of itself as a community, it makes their operations easier

The sweep of globalisation, strongly associated with accepting U.S.-style capitalism, has spawned fresh inequities across the world. How do you perceive the phenomena?

It’s a terrible threat to civilisation, to humanity: not only a political threat, an obviously economic one, but at the most fundamental human level a threat to distinct cultures — the same technology, the same entertainment, the same fast foods so to speak. Based on economic power, it is pushing itself into different parts of the world. Consumerism and materialism have a power of their own and perhaps the greatest victim is culture that in a way represents the accumulative imagination, the pains, suffering, and history of the people

But there has been the emergence of alternative strategies for development in different parts of the world to counter the one under whose cover the U.S. is alleged to be establishing its hegemony.

I see an enormous increase in awareness to the problems thrown up by the globalisation process. As an optimist I think we can see a slowing down in the rate of globalisation and more importantly an awareness of its true meaning, what it is doing to individual societies.

Globalisation is often perceived to be a mirror image of neo-colonialism. Would you agree?

The difference between the old imperialism and the new globalisation process is illustrated well in India. The country suffered the brutalities of foreign domination, the impoverishment that resulted from it. But until globalisation, if you look at the Indian movie industry for instance, its facial aspects remained Indian. Now, with the intensity of globalisation reaching into every little corner of life, even the comedians, the jokes, the rhythm of the music has started changing.

This really makes consumerism and materialism deadlier than armed occupation.

In the old colonialism you at least knew who your enemy was, you felt the knife on the back. You knew what had to be done if you wanted a better life. In the new consumerism you are captive and unaware. When the prisoner is unaware of his chains then it’s hopeless. If you look at globalisation you are completely captive in imagination and desires and this is where the greatest danger lies.

Even as we talk a political debates rages in our country over the signing of the civilian nuclear cooperation deal with the U.S. with the Left pointing out that it will be naïve if the deal were seen in isolation and not part of a greater strategic alliance being forged between the two countries. Would you like to comment?

The Indian people are keenly intelligent and they know what they are doing. And though their motives and those of the U.S. may be entirely different, they may come together for various reasons and globalisation certainly fits into this. If you are a strong ally of the U.S. in the nuclear arms level then you are probably completely open to globalisation and erosion of cultures.

Here we are talking not of a nuclear arms pact but an agreement meant entirely for civilian nuclear cooperation.

The cleverness with which technology can change things can, and will, spread the capacity to develop what we call weapons of mass destruction.

If we talk of opposing any other country to develop nuclear weapons for the sake of peace, whose peace are we referring to — their [the peace of the more powerful countries] or world peace? What I am saying is that if I’m the only one to have nuclear weapons and the capacity to deliver than anywhere than I have the peace and none else does. ‘I’ll wipe you out, you can’t play with me.’ This is an impermissible defence; a defence too destructive for humanity to be used.

You are widely associated with various campaigns against the U.S. “war of aggression” in Iraq, and had even joined a panel of prominent lawyers in 2004 that volunteered to defend Saddam Hussein in November 2005. Has there been any change in the American position in Iraq over the past few months?

Had the war of aggression prevailed cost free, so to speak; had the resistance within Iraq not been so great and so costly to the U.S. not only in terms of human lives but in world respect and reputation, then perhaps it would be more devastating to world peace. But it has slowed the U.S. down radically. The tragedy is that the U.S. war of aggression was a supreme international crime, a supreme crime against humanity — it is important to recognise the threat of the war of aggression is legally equal to the aggression itself.

The U.S. is freely threatening other countries and this is pretty intimidating — these threats. If you look at the human condition in Iraq it breaks your heart. The devastation at every level of life there is unbearable. The humanitarian crisis is unprecedented. Nearly 2.5 million people are out of their country, one million plus have been killed, 75 per cent are without electricity and drinking water.

And then there is the fear cost. We have never had a situation with such a fear cost — the fear of being killed any moment. That is something the world will have to look at and be united to prevent.

Is the terrorist the U.S. claims to be fighting a Frankenstein of its own creation?

The war on terrorism is really a war on Islam. Most of the politicians are putting it as Islamic terrorists but what they really mean is the threat of Islam. So the idea of the war on Islam is the idea of extermination of a proportion never seen in history at any time.

Why this fear of Islam? The U.S. government, its critics argue, is seized by paranoia. During the Cold War it was the threat of Communism. Now you say it is Islam.

As for Islam it is a faith that has served people well at a time when there seems to be no values, no principles, when economic power, greed and force prevail.

In the U.S. it has touched the lives of African-Americans who have had lives caught in street violence and are fighting for their lives. Suddenly Islam comes to them and they find peace, dignity and a faith they can believe in.

The fear is very real. The underlying value of globalisation is material. In this proliferation of unnecessary necessities, as Mark Twain said, you want to create more things, build more things, sell more things, accumulate more money. And the effect, the deadliest thing that can happen, is the enrichment of the rich and the greater impoverishment of the poor, in every country. Globally, the numbers of the poor are increasing fast, the concentration of wealth is greater. That is an unlivable position.

The U.S. government’s need for an enemy, its search for new enemies is really a way of uniting the country, covering its real motives and appealing for patriotism that is called the last refuge of the scoundrel. Patriotism is not the real motive. The real motive is domination and exploitation, and to get away with it you have to have a rallying ground, an enemy. That is where the military comes in. The U.S. spends more on arms than all other countries combined. While it is threatening countries with obliteration if they try to develop a nuclear weapon, it is developing a new generation of its own nuclear weapons, its own new rocketry that can hit any place in minutes.

Yet you have countries in different parts of the world that are closing ranks against the U.S. designs of world dominance.

Domination in itself is hard work. You dominate to exploit. That is how you get your wealth. You hold others down and get your wealth. But you also distract them so that they cannot see the changes, see what you’re doing to them. If you look at the new independence in Latin America, it is startling. You have the old Cuban revolution whose survival is a miracle; the country has the highest reading scores, the [highest] maths score in the hemisphere in their grammar schools though under powerful sanctions for decades. Then you look at Venezuela, what is happening in Argentina. You look at Brazil and Chile where a woman who was imprisoned by Pinochet and whose father was murdered by him in 1974 is President. These countries have broken their chains and they are coming up.

I think India too sees the enemy in ways it never has never before. So does China. There is power in this region, given the sizes of these two countries — which the U.S. cannot manipulate and handle very easily. So what we have to do is to spread an understanding of the problem. The imbalances in military power can mean us going in for an awfully bloody time if we do not see it.

But above all we have to come up back to values that are better than simply consumerism — that which means ‘I want things, I want better food, a better house, a bigger car’; that which means ‘I want to buy my kid every toy in the world.’

On Tuesday 11th Dec. 2007 TMCA Executive Committee members M.A.J.Mohamed Iqbal- President, Vittukatti Mastan - Treasurer and Karaikal S.M.Arif Maricar- Coordination Council member and TMCA website moderator visited Jamal Mohamed College in Trichy which is one of the renowned, reputed colleges in Tamil Nadu. This college is an autonomous college - Accredited at Five Star Level by NAAC. In this prestigious institution about 6000 students are studying in - about 4500 male students in morning session and about 1500 students in the after noon sesision - 14 under graduate courses , 19 post graduate courses and 12 M.Phil & Ph.D courses. The important point to be noted is in this college no capitation fee or donations are collected from the students for any subject but high standard education is given at nominal fees to enable the poor and middle class population to send their wards to this college to attain higher educational qualtification. Students from not only from various places in Tamil Nadu but also from other parts of India come here to get their higher degrees.

The TMCA team was received by Dr.Professor M.M.Sahul Hamid, M.Sc, Ph.D and Hajee Janab K.A.Khaleel Ahamed Saheb - College Treasufer and Janab A.K.Khaja Nazeemudeen Saheb - Assistant Secretary. TMCA team spent the whole day visiting various departnments and facilities pleased to understand the high level of education and facilities available. Mohamed Iqbal, an Alumunus of this college was surprised at the developments happened in this noble institution and had the chance to interact with students of both morning session and afternoon session studetns. TMCA team also visited the college main hostel wehre more than 1500 students are housed and enjoying very pleasant hostel life. In the hostel auditorium an interaction session was arranged by Anti Dowry Association of this college and TMCA president addressed the studetns and gave a brief speech, stressing importance of student life and advised them to prepare themselves to face the competition in the present day environment and advised them to study and work hard to participate in the national building. TMCA team also attended a competion session of girls students and Mohamed Iqbal gave a berief speech motivating the studetns to achieve greater goals in their respective fields.

TMCA is offering scholar ships to 10 deserving students every year totaling Rs.50,000/- since four years and during this visit TMCA team presented cheques to 5 boys and 5 girls studetns who have scored more than 1050 marks in plus two examination and this scholarship will be given to them until they complete their courses. Syed Ali from Adiakkamangalam, Tiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu died in Kuwait due to illness in the month of November 2007. When this sad death news was brought to the attention of TMCA by his relatives, as usual , TMCA took the initiatives to burry his mortal remains in Kuwait with the consent of his family and was burried in Sulaibikhat grave yard. It was brought to the attention of the office bearers of TMCA that late Syed Ali hailed from a poor family and was jobless for some time in Kuwait and left behind him his greieved wife and two children, two girls of 18 and 9 years old. On the earnest appeal from his relatives, TMCA collected Family Benefit Fund in the usual manner from the good hearted well wishers of this association . On 29th November 007 M.A.J.Mohamed Iqbal , President of T.M.C.A accompanied by Vittukatti Mastan, Treasurer of T.M.C.A and M.A.J.Salahudeen from Adiakkamangalam visited the family of late Syed Ali in Adiakkamangalm to convey our hearfelt condolence to the family and presented a bank draft for Rs.35,500/- (Indian Rupees. Thirty five thousand and five hundred only) to Syed Ali's daughter who is studying in the local school. Local people appreciated the T.M.C.A's humanitarian gesture in helping the community whenever and wherever the necessity arises. He died in an unfortunate situation within three months period of his arrival in Kuwait. Forty Thousand only) to Saghaduna Begum and her three year old son Imran Hussain. This occasion was also attended by A.James who is Pondichery People's Congress District Vice President and Nagore brothers A.Mohamed Yunus and S.Syed Zainulabdeen. Rajiv Gandhi Award for Muslim woman leader

Chennai: Social worker and woman leader S. Fathima Muzaffer was conferred Rajiv Gandhi Award along with nine others for eminent social service in Chennai on August 23 2007.

Union Minister of state for statistics G.K.Vasan conferred the award to distinguished social workers belonging to various fields.

Cardiologists, Dr.Cherian, Actress, Manorma, Poet, P.A.Vijay, Educationnist, Madras Christian College Principal, Philips. Carnatic singer, Sudha Rangunathan, Miridanga Maestro, Kollapudi Sivaraman, Orator, Barathi Baskar, Director, Rajkiran, Educationist, Hindustan Aeronotical College Principal Vargese were other reciepient of the award.

Daughter of late Abdul Samad, President of the Indian Union Muslim League (I.U.M.L.), Ms Fatima, the 36 year old social worker dedicated her award to the poor and downtrodden people of Tamil Nadu.

Ms Fatima is grand daughter of Late. Allama Abdul Hameed Baqavi the first person to translate the Holy Quran in Tamil called 'Tarjmatul Quran.'
In the recently concluded All India Executive meeting of the IUML, Ms Fatima was made executive member of this political party. This is for the first time IUML has chosen a woman to its executive board.

In August 2004, Ms Muzaffer represented India for a conference "Terrorism and Security" at the East West Center Hawai. She was amongst 14 other participants from various countries and was adjudged "Star of the Group".

Ms Fatima is the Vice President, Millath Education and Charitable Trust, Member, Muslim Women's Association (MWA), Executive Member of P.T.A of M.W.A. Mat. H.Sec. School, Executive Committee Member, Milli Council, Tamilnadu, Vice President, Islamic Information Centre. Religious Committee Executive Member, Anjuman-e-Hamayath- e-Islam. Co-Director, Al-Hikmah Weekend Islamic School.

She has Co-Authored Text Book named "Living in Harmony" for class I to class VIII published by Oxford University Press (OUP). A first of its kind, this book is published by Oxford University representing good values of all religion. From 2004 more than 4 crores copies of these text book have been sold and has been judged best text book promoting value education among students.

Ms Fatima conducted a mega "Comunal Harmony Meet" in Chennai on October, 4-5 2002 in which more than 10,000 people of different religion participated. She regularly participates in various inter-faith programmes held at YWCA and Theosothical Society in Chennai. She regularly conducts seminars and meetings to bring together people of all faith to promote communal harmony.

She hosted the Tamil programe "Pengal Pervai" on Win TV and also at DD Podigai, for the last 3 years. In this programme she show-cased woman leaders from various fields in Tamil Nadu. She is currently hosting morning programe in DD Podigai named "Kalai Thendral – Valviyal Sindanaigal" .

Every year in the month of Ramadan she hosts Iftar exclusively for ladies and distributes charity during this holy month. She works for the upliftment of poor, widow, destitute women and orphan children. She is also helping needy students with scholarship and fees assistance.

Kuwait: A slight Earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Ritcher scale struck Kuwait at dawn on 18th Aug 2007. It was clearly sensed by those living in top building floors and residents of high storey buildings and houses near the sea. Kuwaiti daily Al Wattan said some residents suddenly felt their furniture shaking. Others said they heard ceilings move and some tables and furniture were actually moving on the ground. Kuwait is not within the range of earthquakes but its residents could receive aftershock quakes from mountains in Iraq and the sea.

DECISION LIFTS RESTRICTION TO FIRST-DEGREE RELATIVES; ‘Kuwait to grant 3-month visit visas’; Can convert to ‘dependent’

“HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah has decided to grant visit visas for three months,” Al-Anba daily quoted acting Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passport Affairs and Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Thabet Al-Muhanna as saying. Calling it a historic decision, Al-Muhanna said, the state of Kuwait has decided to revert back to its earlier policy of granting visit visas for three months and these visas will no longer be restricted to first-degree relatives. Furthermore, visit visas will be granted to all categories of people, including unskilled laborers and these visas can be converted into dependent visas from now onwards.

Also, the government has lifted the ban on citizens of seven countries from entering Kuwait, he added. These include citizens of Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan. Sources say Al-Muhanna conveyed the Prime Minister’s instructions during a meeting held at the ministry. Director-General of General Immigration Department Brigadier Abdullah Al-Ruweih, his assistant Colonel Hudair Al-Hamlan and directors of all other departments attended the meeting. Indicating that the opening up of the issuance of visit visas is an attempt to attract tourists, Al-Muhanna said, “people of certain nationalities will be granted visa on arrival.”

Elaborating he said, citizens of 39 countries will be given visas on arrival at Kuwait Airport, reports Al-Watan daily. Earlier, citizens of only 34 countries were allowed this facility but the government has decided to include citizens of Georgia, Bhutan, Vietnam and two other countries which were not named. Moreover, Al-Muhanna said, “the Prime Minister wants the ‘wasta’ culture to be completely eliminated and he wants all officials to meet visitors during office hours without making them wait for days together.” Reportedly the Prime Minister was also dismayed by the long queues at the airport and he wants airport officials to facilitate the easy passage of visitors. -"Arab Times"

Islamic scholar, leader and writer Moulana M. A. Jameel Ahmed Sahib is no more.

He is 80 and survived by wife, four sons, five daughters. He hails from Vaniyambadi but made Chennai his base for all his tehreki, milli and falahi activities. He was a self made man. He studied upto eighth standard only but attained numerous achievements in literary, managerial and scholarly fields. He served the cause of Islam in various capacities. He joined the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind in 1960s. He was City Ameer of the city of Chennai for many years. He was Secretary of the Tamil Nadu JIH for more than a decade. He was member of the Zonal Advisory Council for more than thirty years from 1972 to 2003. He had been member of the Markazi Majlis-e-Numaindaga n and Markazi Majlis-e-Shura for a brief period.

Moulana M.A. Jameel Ahmed Sahib is well known for his hard work. He used to work round the clock. He used to tap the young and involve the youth in the tahreeky work. When H. Abdur Raqeeb,( who is one of many students and who went on to become his Ameer as the Ameer of Tamil Nadu) intimated him that it is midnight and asked him to take rest, Moulana in his own way quipped ''This world is not a place to rest. Rest is in Jannah only.

" He was the founder general Secretary of Islamic Foundation Trust Chennai and Islamic Centre Vellore. These two institutions have made indelible marks in the field of Dawah. The first one is known worldwide among the Tamil Speaking populace as the trendsetter in Tamil Islamic publishing field. The second is an unique institution imparting elementary knowledge among those who embrace Islam. His major contribution has been the Tamil Translation of Quran. In fact he devoted more than fourteen years for this mammooth work.

He galvanised talented people and took the Aalims into his fold and involved them in this momentous work. Besides he roped in many young talented people and produced more than hundred books in Tamil. He himself translated more than ten books. He wrote a couple of books. One is a Dawah Guide (Azhaippu paniy Yain yeppadi) and the other is 'Man what is your price (Manithaney oon vilai yenna). During the notorious emergency period he was arrested under MISA and was lodged in Central Jail, Madras alongwith senior Jamaat leaders viz Moulana Ejaz Ahmed Aslam and Moulana Abdul Azeez.

During his jail tenure he cultivated close rapport with various political leaders and social activists who were also present there at the Jail as inmates. Notable among them was Adyar, veteran Journalist and sub editor of Murasoli the mouth piece of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). Impressed by these contacts and discussions Mr Adyar later on wriote a series of articles under the topic '' Nan kadalikkum Islam '' (Islam my fascination) . Moulana Jameel Ahmed translated the work in Urdu (islam jis se mujhe ishq hain.) From Urdu it was translated into various languages viz English, Pushtu etc. Another jewel in his crown is the Samarasam Tamil Fortnigtly which is also a trendsetter in Tamil Muslim Journalistic field. He was closely attached with it and penned numerous articles. His editorials were acclaimed in Tamil literary circles.

He was attached with the movement for the past five decades. During this lengthy period he devoted his entire life for the cause of Islam. He was man of few words. He was not a eloquent speaker. But his way of delivery of words and tone mesmerised the listener. Mr. Ahmed Hussain Mulla of Bangalore is one of them. Ahmed Hussain Mulla has single handedly lighted more than thousand hearts with the light of Islam. All because of motivation and inspiring talk given by Moulana M. A. Jameel Ahmed.

Visit visas only for first-degree relatives; College grads salaried at KD 250 can bring family

KUWAIT CITY: The Ministry of Interior has decided to allow expatriates of all nationalities, barring Iraqis, to bring their families to Kuwait provided their monthly salaries are KD 250 or more and they hold a university certificate, reports Al-Wasat daily. Also, immigration departments in all governorates are accepting dependant visa applications of those planning to bring their immediate kith and kin if they fulfill the required conditions in this regard. However, visit visas are still being issued only to first-degree relatives like father, mother, wife and children, says a source in the ministry adding “under special circumstances, exceptions for made for some categories.”

Furthermore, visit visas cannot be transferred into dependant visas except in the case of babies. Also, visit visas cannot be transferred into work visas but those arriving on business visas can get the work visa from the same company sponsoring his or her visit. However, such applicants have to stick to their proper profession. “If an expatriate wishes to work as a pharmacist, he cannot come through a general contracting company,” elaborated the source. On humanitarian grounds, the Interior Ministry exempted babies from the ban on transferring visit visas to dependent visas, he added.

KUWAIT CITY: Motorists should be banned from using mobiles while they are driving and violators should be made to pay a penalty of not more than 500 dinars, Al-Anba quoted MPs Ali Al-Rashed and Adel Al-Sarawi as saying. In a proposal to amend Law 67/1967 on traffic regulations, the lawmakers said “protecting the safety of road users is the most important objective of traffic law. Allowing motorists to use mobile phones while they are driving will affect their concentration and pose danger to their safety.” Research has proved motorists who use mobile phones while driving are four times more likely to meet with accidents than others, he noted. They also said “a new article should be added to Law 67/1967 to ban motorists from using mobile phones while driving or supervising the driving of others.”

Kuwait Government New Rule for Photographs

Dear All,

Kuwait Government has released new rules concerning Photograph regulations as attached herewith.

All candidates that are locally transfer, overseas hire and renewal must submit their photographs as per the attached.

The reason for this is that the government will scan the photo onto your residence stamp in the passport. Any other forms of photos will not be accepted.

Main points to remember when advising the candidates:

1- Photos must be size 6 x 4 cm (6cm length and 4cm width) and no more than 6 months old
2- Face must be looking directly at the camera and not looking over a shoulder (portrait style) or tilted.
3- Eyes, ears should be visible (No hair covering across it)
4- Background must be light plain blue color with no patterns
5- Photos should be printed in high quality paper, no creases or ink marks
6- No frames, tinted lenses & head cover like hats
7- Close up picture, from head to shoulder must take 70-80 % of the photo (which is head to shoulder)
8- Females must wear covered attire, covering the chest and shoulders
9- For religious purpose, females who wear head scarf should allow forehead up to chin visible.

ICE (in case of emergency)

It is an idea which is worth sharing and which can make a difference in case of emergency.

A recent article from the Toronto Star, "the ICE idea", is catching on and it is a very simple, yet important method of contact for you or a loved one in case of an emergency. As cell phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is program the number of a contact person or persons and store the name as "ICE".

The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when they went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which numbers to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name to file "next of kin" under.
Following a disaster in London, The East Anglican Ambulance Service has launched a national "In case of Emergency (ICE)" campaign. The idea is that you store the word "ICE "

in your mobile phone address book, and with it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency ". In an emergency situation, Emergency Services personnel and hospital staff would then be able to quickly contact your next of kin, by simply dialing the number programmed under "ICE".

Please forward this. It won't take too many "forwards" before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest. For more than one Contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2, ICE3 etc.

King Orders Full Makkah Mosque Air Conditioning

JEDDAH, 8 July 2007 — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has ordered for air conditioning to be fitted in the entire Grand Mosque in Makkah for the benefit of pilgrims and worshippers, said Sheikh Saleh Al-Hosain, head of the Presidency for the Two Holy Mosques Affairs.

Al-Hosain said the project would be carried out within a short period of time without affecting regular prayers and rituals such as tawaf (circumambulation of the Holy Kaaba) and saee (the walk between mounts Safa and Marwa). He also thanked the king for his gesture. Currently, air conditioning is only available in that part of the Haram which was built during the reign of King Fahd.
Plans have also been made to increase the mosque’s capacity by 35 percent to accommodate the growing numbers of pilgrims and worshippers, especially during the peak Haj and Umrah seasons. According to one source, the new expansion project will be completed by 2020.

At least 10 million Muslims including Saudis, expatriate workers and foreign pilgrims visit the Grand Mosque in Makkah each year to perform Haj and Umrah and attend regular and special prayers. During the past years, the government has already spent more than SR70 billion on expanding the Two Holy Mosques.

The new master plan for Makkah’s central region aims at accommodating three million residents and eight million pilgrims. In 2005, as part of efforts to develop the central region, King Abdullah launched six major projects, including the SR12 billion Jabal Omar Residential Towers. The Jabal Omar project includes five star hotels, commercial centers and prayer facilities.

Abdul Rahman Faqeeh, chairman of Makkah Construction Company, described Jabal Omar as one of the largest real estate projects in the Arab world, covering an area of 32,000 square meters. “The project will change the face of Makkah,” he said, adding that it will also provide prayer area for more than 200,000 worshippers.

MoI to launch website with GCC States

Officials at the Ministry of Interior announced that they were currently in the process of launching a special website in which all services of interest, to both citizens and expatriates alike could be accessed easily.

They said that the services, offered online would include various transactions and would also contain photographs of wanted criminals and details of stolen items reported at police stations all over Kuwait, which in turn would help prevent thieves from selling the items they steal.

The officials also explained that data posted on the website would be updated regularly and would also include the ministry's administrative structure as well as the latest security-related news. They added that in the long run, the website would be upgraded to include links to other GCC security authorities in cooperation with them.

The undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior said that they were constantly following up on progress achieved in this project, which is expected to be launched in the very near future.

Three Indians killed in Abu Halifa - Kuwait

Three Indians died in a fire late Thursday in Abu Halifa. Mangaf and Fahaheel fire fighters, led by Lt Colonel AbdulAziz Malallah, rushed to the site after they got a call at 11:30 pm. Mallalah told Kuwait Times that the fire started in an apartment on the fifth floor of a residential building which was occupied by six Indians. He said that the cause of the fire was due to an extreme electricity overload.

On arriving at the scene, the first thing the firemen noticed was a bloodied dead body of an Indian nurse on the ground. The fire fighters evacuated the building and immediately started their work. When the firemen tried to enter the apartment, they found the body of a 48-year-old Indian woman next to an iron bed who had suffocated to death by the smoke. They also found another body of an Indian man in the toilet who had also died of smoke inhalation. Fire fighters were able to put out the fire in half an hour.

One survivor of the fire was a 45-year-old Indian man who had escaped through a window and was able to get down to the fourth floor. The nurse tried to imitate him, but she fell to the ground and died. The survivor suffered a few minor burns and was taken to Babtain hospital.

BSNL slashes ISD rates to US, Canada, Gulf

Triggering another price war in the ISD segment, state-run telecom major BSNL has reduced call rates to the US , Canada and the Gulf to Rs 1.75 per minute and Rs 6.75 per minute, respectively, slightly lower than the rates offered by private firms.

US, Canada and Gulf are the busiest ISD routes from India and with the drop of rates, BSNL hopes to scale up volumes, a senior BSNL official said.

Private players at present offer ISD calls at the rate of Rs 1.99 per minute to the US and Rs 6.99 a minute for the Gulf countries.

BSNL will soon introduce a new STD/ISD calling card, Call Now, that will enable a user can call someone in the US at the rate of Rs 1.75 per minute using a card of Rs 2,000, which will have a validity of three months.

Call charges in the same card are Rs 3.25 a minute to France , Russia , the UK and South-East Asia, Rs 5.50 per minute to the rest of Europe and Sri Lanka , and Rs 8 a minute to the rest of the world.

Under this plan, local and STD charges are Re 1 per minute.In May, leading private player Bharti Airtel dropped ISD charges to the US and Canada where a Airtel mobile user could call at Rs 1.99 per minute with the Airtel STD and ISD Calling Card worth Rs 2,245.

Reliance Communications also had cut its rates to the US and Canada to Rs 1.99 per minute on its 'Reliance Global Call Card' of Rs 1,900. The Anil Ambani group company had recently cut call charges to the Gulf to Rs 6.99 a minute.

Many mobile service providers, led by Airtel, have also cut the lifetime pre-paid charges to between Rs 444 and Rs 499. While Airtel slashed its charges to Rs 495, Reliance Communications cut its Rs 499 plan and Hutch Rs 495 plan.

Earlier this month, BSNL, MTNL and Reliance had announced drastic cut in roaming charges, too, under a few plans which makes roaming free in certain hours and charges Re 1 (per minute) for both outgoing and incoming calls.

The cyclone has hit the Omani coast! - Pictures

A powerful cyclone began buffeting Oman on Tuesday, forcing the evacuation of thousands of people from Masirah Island in the Arabian Sea and closing the country's main gas export terminal.

A weather service official told Oman state television Tropical Cyclone Gonu, which earlier reached the equivalent of a maximum-force Category Five hurricane, was expected to be worse than a destructive one that hit the island in 1977.

As winds of up to 260 kmh and waves as high as 12 metres battered Oman's eastern coast, the state news agency forecast thunder storms and heavy rainfall in the oil producing country. The weather service offical expected floods.

"It's quite common to have heavy rains at this time of year in Oman," said a Western executive based in Muscat.

"But this weather is quite unusual and they're calling it the worst in Oman's modern history."

A shipping agent told Reuters Oman's Sur export terminal, which handles 10 million tonnes per year of liquefied natural gas exports had been closed because of the storm and the Mina al Fahal oil terminal, that ships all Oman's 650,000 barrels per day of oil exports, was likely to shut soon.

The Sultan Qaboos port, which handles vehicles and containers, was also closed, another shipping source said.

A shipping agent for the UAE said on Monday no warning had been issued there. Operations at the port of Fujairah were continuing as normal.

A Dubai-based shipping agent also said no official warning had been sent to his company.

Oman's civil defence has mobilised 7,000 personnel to handle any emergency situation in the aftermath of Gonu making landfall on the eastern coast.

After passing Oman, it expects the storm to head toward Iran across the Gulf of Oman, a major shipping channel for Gulf crude oil exports.

Brigadier Dr. Jamal Al Marri, Deputy Director of the Crisis and Disaster Management Committee, told Gulf News, "There are teams working on following up various developments and the areas to which the cyclone is expected to reach."

He said the preliminary precautionary procedures have already begun to cover the precautionary side of it.

"There is a direct follow up for various developments on the cyclone, its directions, speed and what will accompany it. The follow up has been going on for the last three days. The primary information we have imply that it will not affect the normal life," he said.

However, he said with the cyclone nearing the Eastern areas, especially south Oman, the things have taken a different way regarding preparedness.

A spokesperson from Dubai Civil Defence told Gulf News, "We have increased preparedness level and we are constantly following up the issue."

As announced last Friday, Ministry of Awqaf has arranged for an additional mosque where English Khutbahs will be held in the south of Kuwait. This is for the convenience of brothers and sisters staying in the area.
